On October 29, 2021, Petra Thaller, founder and president of OAC, took the stage at the Garmin Health Summit 2021 in Lisbon to share her insights on cancer prevention and the transformative power of outdoor activities and sports. This hybrid event, hosted at the “suspenso” in the heart of Lisbon, brought together industry experts and Garmin employees to discuss innovations in healthcare, insurance, and corporate wellness.

Thaller’s presentation emphasised OAC’s mission to promote primary, secondary, and tertiary cancer prevention through a holistic approach that includes outdoor activities, healthy environments, nutrition, and mental health. She highlighted the impact of OAC’s work on cancer patients, their families, and the broader community, showcasing how an active lifestyle can create long-lasting, positive changes.

Reflecting on the event, Petra Thaller shared:
The Garmin Health Summit is an important further milestone in the still young history of OAC for Europe and beyond. Digitalization, network and knowledge transfer, and securing offers on an international level are the main tasks that OAC has taken on in the past two years. Garmin was and is an important supporting partner in our international network activities.

The Summit also featured the inaugural Garmin Health Awards, celebrating innovative applications of Garmin wearables in healthcare, insurance, and customer engagement. This year’s event underscored the critical role of technology in fostering wellness and enhancing patient outcomes.

Thaller’s presentation further drew on research highlighting the importance of an active lifestyle in cancer prevention and mental health, especially among teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer survivors. Her talk resonated with the audience, emphasising the need for accessible tools and resources tailored to younger generations to foster long-term healthy behaviors.

The Garmin Health Summit 2021 not only provided a platform for OAC’s impactful initiatives but also reinforced the shared commitment of leaders across industries to drive innovation and inspire a healthier future.
